RESEARCH AREAS:

- analysis of environmental impacts of the agricultural sector activities, from cradle to grave of product functionality, by the methods of LCA (Life Cycle Assessment), carbon footprint and water footprint,
- multi-criteria evaluation of sustainable development of agriculture in different temporal and spatial scales,
- environmental assessment of agriculture development on the regional scale using models of environmental performance and production efficiency,
- modeling flows of nutrients and energy at farm level, individual sectors of agriculture and processing of agricultural raw materials,
- analysis of the efficiency of nutrient utilization in different systems of agricultural production,
- identifying the potential impact of pesticides on the environment by using the eco-indices,
- analysis of sources and amount of emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG) and ammonia in agriculture,
- changes in stocks of organic matter in soils of different agrosystems, taking into account climatic factors and different technologies of crop and livestock production,
- modeling the spatial structure of the landscape at farm in order to enhance a potential of carbon dioxide retention.

Environmental life cycle assessment and life cycle costing of grain crop production in different soil tillage systems (research project no 2015/19/N/HS4/03031, founded by the National Science Centre in Poland)

OFFER OF COOPERATION:

Offer of cooperation for business, public administration and sel-government bodies:
1. Analysis of the environmental impact of producing activities in farms and in enterprises of agricultural production and of processing of raw materials according to the LCA methods compatible with the requirements of standards and principles of environmental product declaration
2. Analysis of the carbon footprints for raw and processed agriculture products in accordance with the requirements of standards which helps business to implement the system of environmental labelling.
3. Environmental expertise and expertise in the field of material balances and flow of nutrients in different ecosystems

1. Environmental analysis of production processes in agriculture with the use of LCA methods
2. Modeling the flow of minerals and energy in agrosystems
3. Assessment of greenhouse gas emissions in agriculture and ways of their mitigation
4. Analysis of the technical and environmental efficiencies of economic units, regions (using the non-parametric DEA method): determining the benchmarks and identifying the causes of inefficiencies, identifying the directions of improvement.

FIELD RESEARCH

Field research is carried out by the Department in the Długie Stare Ltd. farm enterprise, on the basis of agreement on cooperation in the use of agricultural land habitats. Farm activities is covered by the system of data registration of production and environmental features. Several year period of observations will allow for reliable and representative life cycle assessments (LCA) for the selected products. With the acquisition of detailed data it will also be possible to develop models of mass and energy flows in the system of intensive agricultural production.
