Research topics:

Main research topics deal with following issues:

  • relationships between biodiversity (mostly of farmland) and habitat structure, landscape structure; long-term trend analysis (for birds and insects); study on species dispersion (insects and plants) and on the use of selected species for bioindication of habitat quality;
  • relationships between organisms – trophic relations (among insects, birds and spiders or between these groups), competition, in that between native and alien species;
  • environmental pollution: ecotoxycology (in respect to birds, algae and small water bodies), phytoremediation, control of nutrient fluxes in agricultural landscape;
  • plant ecology: primary production of plants in relation to photosynthesis type (C3 vs. C4) against the climatic and environmental conditions, and landscape structure; changes in water plant communities influenced by alien species and human pressure;
  • landscape structure analysis – in respect to hydrographical network, spatial arrangement of mid-field afforested patches, distribution of habitat types and spatial variability of their structure;
  • sustainable use of resources – mostly wood and water – as a basis for preservation of high biodiversity level.

Ongoing studies:

  • GIS as a tool for habitat description and nature protection in a farmland (granted by NCN no. N N305 358638, since 2009); http://www.isrl.poznan.pl/projekt_tomek
  • The principles of shaping the spatial structure of trees and dendroflora of midfield shelterbelts in order to optimize their protective and production functions (granted by NCN nr N N 309 297939).
